The Month of March

9. On this day commemoration is made of: The holy Forty

        Martyrs of Sebaste.

Prokhimenon. Tone 5. [Psalm 11].

Verse: Thou, O Lord, shalt keep us and shalt preserve us.

Verse:  Save me, O Lord, for the godly man ceaseth.

The reading is from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews.

Hebrews 12:1-10

Brethren, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

Alleluia [3]. Tone 2 [Psalm 65].
Verse: Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Verse:
For thou, O God, hast proved us.

25.The Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God and Ever-

            Virgin Mary.

Prokhimenon. Tone 3. [Luke 1]

Verse: My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath

          rejoiced in God my Saviour.

Verse:  For He hath regarded the low estate of His handmaiden.

The reading is from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews.

Hebrews 2:11-18

Brethren, both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Alleluia [3]. Tone 2 [Psalm 71].
Verse: He shall come down as rain upon a fleece: and as

          drops falling upon the earth.
Verse:
Let His name be blessed forever.

26. On this day commemoration is made of: The holy Archangel

            Gabriel.

The reading is from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews.
Hebrews 2:2-10

Brethren, if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

30. On this day commemoration is made of: Our holy father

John Climacus, Author of the Ladder.

Prokhimenon. Tone 7 ( Psalm 115)
Verse:
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
Verse:
What shall we render unto the LORD for all his

           benefits toward us?

The reading is from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians.
Galatians 5:22-6:2

Brethren, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Alleluia [3]. Tone 4 [Psalm 33, 111]
Verse:
The righteous cried, and the Lord hearken unto them.

Verse: Blessded is the man that feareth the Lord.
