Kalimera pater what i would like to know is this month its my fathers one year mnimosino do i have to do xrisokolifa or the usual kolifa and why do they do xrisokolifa? Have a nice day and a good week...
Answer to Question 347
Kolyva is Kolyva. What people call xrisolokyva are the ones that are decorated with those silver coloured sweets which makes no sense because they are not gold coloured so really should be called argyrokolyva. They are usually placed on top of kolyva which have been covered with a coat of icing sugar and although the silver sweets on a white background can make a beautiful picture, the sugar content is so high and does not take into consideration that so many people like me are diabetic. The best kolyva are the ones made only with the traditional ingredients, wheat rinsed in aniseed, raisins, pomegranate, almond nuts/walnuts and sesame seeds. If one has an artistic flare then there are so many beautiful ways to decorate the tray
