Why are there springs of holy water from each monastery / church?
Answer to Question 235
Springs of holy water are usually found at monasteries which for obvious reasons were built near to a water supply. Some of these springs are said to have appeared miraculously and others make a good selling point. We need to understand that it is not Holy Water in the same way that when a priest performs the service of the blessing of waters. The blessed water is called "Agiasmos" and the spring water is simply "Agiasma"
